Zynga releases Empires and Allies

Zynga, the top browser-based video game developer launched empires and allies on June 1st for facebook users. The game is available in 12 different languages:  Malay, Korean, Norwegian, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish and traditional Chinese.

Executive producer Amer Ajami, 1UP has learned that Empire & Allies was internally referenced as "Cityville meets Risk," and that the core development team is comprised of former Command & Conquer and The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth team members. The game blends familiar city building and expansion mechanics of Zynga's previous games like Cityville, Frontierville, or FarmVille). However, Empires and allies is different with more traditional elements, such as combat and a single player campaign.

Over the course of the Empires & Allies campaign, players will be introduced 30 characters as they attempt to build up their peaceful island nation into a dominant empire. The evil enemy forces have invaded a thriving, multi-island world and your mission is to build army units, recruit or invade friends and derive clues from allies and villains. Fund your armies by utilizing consumable resources, and choose your battleground: air, land, or sea. In the facebook game players fight against the Dark Alliance in solo play, or create allegiances and "frenemies" as they battle to expand their territory.

Ajami confirmed that while Empires & Allies is a social game (like all Zynga titles), there is not a cooperative campaign included at this time. However, the team is considering a possible co-op feature as part of a post-launch update.
